ㅇ Jeollabuk-do promotes the first DRT model in South Korea as the public transportation system requires improvement for rights to trip including expanded transportation welfare. 

ㅇ There are various problems with Jeollabuk-do DRT 1.0 which is introduced for the first time in South Korea: increased inconvenience due to real-time call failure, difficulty in operation management due to handwritten recording method system, and lack of transparency in financial support due to lack of monitoring of driver absenteeism. 

ㅇ In order to improve such problems of DRT 1.0, DRT 2.0 has been introduced, which is run mainly by private firms, so that it enables app-based real-time call method, platform-based operation management and monitoring system. 

ㅇ However, it is hard to provide consulting services in regards to information of appropriate number of operating vehicles, number of workers, and the range of operation and it is also impossible to analyze the predictive effect of implementation. 

ㅇ DRT 3.0 has recently been proposed to provide a comprehensive improvement to DRT 1.0 and DRT 2.0 issues, with the following five major features:

 

1) Simulation (Quantitative) Analysis of DRT Implementation Effect based on Public Transportation Utilization Status by Region.

2) Optimal Operating System Design for Regionalized DRT Based on Transportation Engineering Demand Analysis.

3) Improvement of integrated platform-based operating system such as real-time monitoring and feedback.

4) Optimization of waiting areas based on different time intervals to minimize imbalance of vehicle allocations.

5) Minimization of financial support through the algorithm of ‘minimum number of cars-maximum trips’.

 

ㅇ It is necessary to introduce a real-time allocation and monitoring-based DRT 3.0 platform to improve innovative operation services of Jeollabukdo-oriented DRT. 

ㅇ Through this, efficient and transparent operation management can be computerized and linked with other means of transportation, enabling improvement of DRT services.
