□ Concept of climateflation and its impact on agroindustry

○ Unusual weather phenomena can lead to abnormal climate events, causing volatility in the demand and supply of agricultural products.

Anomalous climate events that affect agricultural production activities can result in unstable production patterns and subsequently higher consumer prices.

The average maximum temperature increased to 34.0℃ from 31.1℃ between the summer of 2023 and that of 2024, and the fresh food price index rose by 3.5% during the same period.

□ Changes in food security and consumption patterns triggered by climate change

○ Climate change-driven anxiety about food security, in turn, increases demand for sustainable and eco-friendly foods.

Alternative foods and green food technologies are likely to serve as a viable means to respond to climate change.

The ongoing efforts are geared toward improving how foods are produced and processed, creating an efficient manufacturing base, and operating eco-friendly systems, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

□ Research and development of low-carbon foods facilitated by changes in food consumption patterns

○ Alternative protein sources are classified into plants, insects, algae, microorganisms, and cultivated meat.

The alternative food industry aims to research and develop foods that provide protein through sources other than existing animal sources.

Cutting-edge technologies, such as AI, ICT, and IoT, are leveraged to develop foods that mimic the consumption characteristics of animal-based foods.

□ Jeonbuk’s agricultural product development strategies to effectively navigate climateflation

○ To cope with climateflation, Jeonbuk State must craft valid strategies to discover potential crop candidates, select regions, and develop new varieties.

Additionally, it is vital to secure a stable supply of raw materials for agricultural products by researching and developing crops suitable for cultivation and promoting contract farming.

Moreover, fostering public–private cooperation is required to modernize stockpile facilities and ultimately achieve sustainable agriculture.
